Walkathon For Water

5K Charity Walk in Playa Blanca.
The We Are Water Foundation and the European Resorts managed by Hilton Grand Vacations are organising the second edition of the Walkathon for water, a solidarity walk, which this year will be joined by the town of Playa Blanca, with the aim of raising funds to reduce the distance that children in communities in Tanzania and India have to walk in search of drinking water.
This solidarity walk will take place on different dates, with distances of between 4 and 6 kilometres, in a total of 21 locations in six different countries (Spain, Portugal, France, Italy, England, Scotland and Austria), Playa Blanca being one of them.
Specifically, the southern race will take place on Tuesday 29 October, starting at 15:00 hours, along the seafront avenue starting at Playa Flamingo and a distance of 5 kilometres which will take the participants to the vicinity of La Mulata beach, where there will be a refreshment point, to turn around and finish at the Jardines del Sol hotel complex.
Registrations to take part in this charity walk are now open and can be made through the foundation’s website here for a minimum donation of 5 euros per person.
This solidarity walk will help us to raise awareness of this problem – 6 kilometres is the average distance that millions of children in Africa, Asia and Latin America have to walk every day to fetch water – and to generate resources to bring water to those who need it most. For every kilometre walked, another person must walk 1 kilometre less in search of clean water in local communities in Tanzania and India.
Globally more than 2 billion people lack access to clean water and more than 1,000 children die every day from diseases caused by lack of clean water.
The Playa Blanca walk is supported by the Yaiza Town Hall, the Chiringuito Tropical and the Bailybar Restaurant.
