FreeJazz concert in Arrecife with Germán López and Ana Popovic.
Free entrance.
Germán López is one of the timple players who, since his professional beginnings, has been committed to the sound possibilities of the instrument far from the folk scene, in a clear commitment to dialogue and fusion with other cultures and artists of different styles. Germán López’s new album is entitled Alma. According to the artist himself, it is a work that opens up new sonic horizons in his professional career, recorded with the prestigious Los Angeles producer Gregg Field, winner of 8 Grammy Awards and drummer with Count Basie, Ella Fitzgerald and Frank Sinatra. Gregg has also produced for Ray Charles, Barbra Streisand, Natalie Cole, Michael Bublé and Jason Mraz.
Alma also features a notable cast of nationally and internationally renowned musicians such as Richard Bona, Jorge Pardo, Antonio Serrano, Josemi Carmona, Alain Pérez, Israel Suárez Piraña, Carlitos del Puerto, Gregg Field himself, Seckou Keita, Cheche Alara, Lila Downs and Aymée Nuviola, among others.
‘It is a novelty for a timple player to be able to sign and work with a big company, a label with the prestige and trajectory of Virgin / Universal’, explains Germán López. ‘It’s a commitment to the new album – the fifth solo album by Germán López since his debut in 2006 – and to a very particular project of world music, with the timple as the protagonist, and which is only played here in the Canary Islands’, the musician stresses.
All the albums released by Germán López to date have been self-produced, and his incorporation into the record company comes with the added bonus of having had Gregg Field as producer. A new stage begins so that, as Germán himself says, ‘other doors can open and collaborate with other artists, have better distribution and marketing and, in short, a better positioning of my work’.

Award-winning guitarist Ana Popovic combines electric funk and slide guitar, jazzy instrumentals and a hard-edged blues rhythm with a soulful, feminine voice. Added to this is her incredible stage presence, making her an irresistible force in the world of contemporary blues music.
Nominated for seven Blues Music Awards, Ana was the only female guitarist on the all-star line-up for the 2014-18 Experience Hendrix, a national tour celebrating the music and legacy of Jimi Hendrix with Buddy Guy, Eric Johnson, Jonny Lang, Kenny Wayne Shepherd and many more world-renowned artists.
Popovic was featured on the cover of Vintage Guitar and Guitar Player magazines. His albums Can You Stand The Heat (2013) and Unconditional (2011) were selected by USA Today and featured on NPR Music. His album POWER (2023) reached #1 on the Billboards Blues Charts, the list of the best-selling albums nationwide.
Popovic is one of a select group of excellent modern blues guitarists. One of the reasons could be the fact that she is always willing to work a little harder and travel a little further to master her craft. Ana and her powerhouse band are touring tirelessly, playing at major blues, jazz and rock festivals. She is endorsed by Fender, D’Angelico, Jim Dunlop and DR strings. She has shared the stage with B.B. King, Joe Bonamassa, Gary Clark Jr. and many others.
