Ballet: “La Bella Durmiente”

“Sleeping Beauty” ballet in Arrecife on the 17th & 18th of January.

By the Ballet Clásico de Cuba. The work is directed by Laura Alonso, daughter of the renowned Alicia and Fernando Alonso, creators of the methodology of the Cuban Ballet School and founders of the National Ballet of Cuba.

The ballet tells the story of Princess Aurora. At her christening, the evil fairy Carabosse, offended at not having been invited, curses Aurora so that on her sixteenth birthday she will prick her finger with a spinning wheel and die. The kindly fairy Lilac modifies the curse: Aurora will not die, but will fall into a deep sleep until she is awakened by the kiss of a prince. On her birthday, Aurora pricks herself with a spinning wheel and falls into the prophesied sleep. After many years, Prince Desiré finds Aurora, wakes her with a kiss and breaks the curse. The ballet concludes with the wedding of Aurora and Desiré, celebrated in the presence of various fairy-tale characters.
